Destination Crenshaw is a 1.3-mile-long outdoor art and culture experience dedicated to Black Los Angeles under development along Crenshaw Boulevard. This community-inspired project will use the iconic street as a canvas and anchor for public art and streetscape design. Destination Crenshaw will culturally stamp sidewalks, business facades, and public structures with more than 100 unique art installations, a dozen African American-themed pocket parks, and culturally-minded street and landscaping improvements.
Destination Crenshaw will be built for, by, and in honor of the community, and will celebrate the historical and contemporary contributions of Black Los Angeles to the city and the world. The project documents and preserves a 205-year history of Black people in the Los Angeles area, and celebrates the largest Black community west of the Mississippi. Construction will begin this Spring with plans to open in Spring 2020.
